Charles Landry and Mary-Anne WaldrenOctober 24 to 28: Charles Landry returns to Canberra to hold a series of private workshops for leaders in industry and one public ticketed event

“The Landry scorecard is a good starting point for the 21st century city we all want … he’s a man we should listen to and learn from. Will we?”
-       The Canberra Times, November 9, 2010

Canberra held its collective breath for a week last year when Landry helped 150 of Canberra’s leaders self-rate the city. Canberra passed overall, with a respectable

5.4 out of 10, but scored poorly on leadership, with just 3.4 out of 10.

Landry is returning to Canberra in October to help sections of Canberra make the most of the natural advantages they have. He will be focusing on leadership.  The creative index of Canberra identified this as the one area that needs urgent attention.  Leaders of Industry in Capital will be meeting with Landry in workshops to help change this statistic before 2013.  A public ticketed event will be held.  Information will be put up on the site shortly.

Landry is an urban planner who helps cities reach their potential by triggering their imagination and thinking. He works closely with decision-makers and leaders as a critical friend to inspire, facilitate and stimulate, to help find original solutions to seemingly intractable urban dilemmas. He is regarded as an international authority on creativity and city futures, the use of culture in revitalising cities, cultural planning and heritage issues, strategic policy development and the cultural industries. He focuses on how the culture of a place can invigorate and revitalise the economy and enhance the sense of self and confidence.

Mary-Anne bought Landry to Canberra in 2004 for the ICAN Festival where he advised its planning, business and cultural elite on ways to move forward. All but one of Landry’s 10 recommendations for Canberra, handed down in 2004, were made.

His return visit in 2010 once again stimulated comment on where Canberra is at. Please see his findings and report on Canberra below.
